The Second SEAL Conference and ISEA Regional Assembly shall be held in Bali, Indonesia on September 26-30, 2017. The theme agreed upon, as a follow-up to the First SEAL Conference, is Social Enterprise: Addressing Inequality for a Just Economy and shall serve as a venue for Learning Exchange on Social Enterprise Impacts and the Sustainable Development Goals. ISEA, Oxfam, Oikocredit and ASoG Successfully Launch Social Enterprises and the Poor: Transforming Wealth

The popular version of ISEA President Marie Lisa M. Dacanay’s Ph.D. thesis Social Enterprises and the Poor: Transforming Wealth was successfully launched last October 10, 2013 at the Ground Floor of Faber Hall, Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City. The event was participated by stakeholders from the social enterprise sector, civil society, government, business and academe led by Congressional Representative and Social Enterprise Bill Champion Teddy Baguilat, Ateneo School of Government (ASoG) Dean and ISEA Chair Antonio La Vina, Oxfam GB Regional Manager Amit Vatsyayan, Gandang Kalikasan President Anna Meloto-Wilk and Deputy Regional Director for Oikocredit Emma Lim-Sandrino. ISEA, Oxfam, Oikocredit and ASoG co-published the book. Representatives from the cases featured in the book from Alter Trade Foundation Inc, the Negros Organic and Fair Trade Association, Upland Marketing Foundation Inc, the National Federation of Cooperatives of Persons with Disability and the Foundation for These Abled Inc likewise joined the celebration. read more

ISEA Partners with ABAC Philippines for APEC SME Summit

ISEA was invited by the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Philippines as partner for the social entrepreneurship (SE) segment of the APEC SME Summit which occurred last January 20, 2013. The APEC SME Summit was organized as a related event to the ABAC Meeting in Manila this year.  ABAC is the recognized voice of the business sector at the Asia Pacific Economic Council or APEC. The theme for the APEC SME Summit is Breaking Barriers Through Innovation. The summit showcased the stories of successful entrepreneurs in the region and was divided into three major segments: Breaking Mindsets, Breaking Into New Markets, and Breaking Traditional Business Models. The third segment, Breaking Traditional Business Models, featured three successful social entrepreneurs invited in partnership with ISEA:  Ms. Anna Meloto-Wilk, Co-founder and President of Gandang Kalikasan, Inc; Dr. Aris Alip, Co-founder and Managing Director of CARD-MRI and Mr. Bambang Ismawan, Co-founder and Chairperson of Bina Swadaya. Bina Swadaya Founder Speaks at Forum on Social Entrepreneurship

Last January 21, 2013, Mr. Bambang Ismawan, the co-founder and chair of Bina Swadaya, shared about the journey of Bina Swadaya towards sustainability in a public symposium entitled, Perspectives on Social Entrepreneurship and NGO Sustainability: Lessons from Indonesia. Bina Swadaya is a self-sustaining Indonesian NGO running on the profits generated by 17 subsidiary organizations. The primary activities of the organization are community empowerment, microfinance service and development, agribusiness development, development communication, and marketing promotion and distribution. The forum took place at the GT Toyota University of the Philippines Asian Center Auditorium. It was co-organized by the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship in Asia (ISEA), University of the Philippines (UP) Asian Center, the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement (PRRM) and supported by the Foundation for a Sustainable Society, Inc. (FSSI), and Oikocredit Philippines. read more

Tañada Keynotes Social Entrepreneurship Forum Series Launch

Deputy Speaker Lorenzo 'Erin' Tanada III led over a hundred leaders, partners and advocates of social enterprises during the launch of a Poverty Reduction Through Social Entrepreneurship (PRESENT) Multisectoral Forum Series on June 29, 2012 at the SDC Conference Hall, Ateneo de Manila University Loyola Campus in Quezon City. Tanada is the principal sponsor of House Bill 6085, also known as the Poverty Reduction Through Social Entrepreneurship (PRESENT) Bill and was the keynote speaker of the forum series launch.
